Temporary Space

/tmp is for TEMPORARY storage of large files (e.g. large output files). Files stored in this directory are cleared if they have not been touched in 30 days. You can create a directory named the same as your login name and place files there temporarily.

Unlike your home directory, the /tmp directory is machine-specific. If you put files in a /tmp directory on one machine, you can only access those files on that particular machine.

When /tmp is cleared, all your files there will disappear completely and forever. No exceptions. If you need more space, you may want to get a standard account or archive your files.
